___ USE CONGRESSIONAL AUTHORITY AND OVERSIGHT TO ENSURE APPROPRIATE FEDERAL AGENCIES FULLY INVESTIGATE AND PROSECUTE THE WALL STREET CRIMINALS who clearly broke the law and helped cause the 2008 financial crisis in the following notable cases: (insert list of the most clear cut criminal actions). There is a pretty broad consensus that there is a clear group of people who got away with millions / billions illegally and haven't been brought to justice. Boy would this be long overdue and cathartic for millions of Americans. It would also be a shot across the bow for the financial industry. If you watch the solidly researched and awared winning documentary film "Inside Job" that was narrated by Matt Damon (pretty brave Matt!) and do other research, it wouldn't take long to develop the list.
___ CONGRESS ENACT LEGISLATION TO PROTECT OUR DEMOCRACY BY REVERSING THE EFFECTS OF THE CITIZENS UNITED SUPREME COURT DECISION which essentially said corporations can spend as much as they want on elections. The result is that corporations can pretty much buy elections. Corporations should be highly limited in ability to contribute to political campaigns no matter what the election and no matter what the form of media. The Supreme Court decision is really weird. Read it when you have a chance. The justices who argued for unlimited corporate contributions thought that wouldn't have an adverse effect on democracy and wouldn't undermine the citizen's view of legitimacy of elections. I'm not sure there's a word for that it's so strange.
___ CONGRESS PASS THE BUFFETT RULE ON FAIR TAXATION SO THE RICH AND CORPORATIONS PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE & CLOSE CORPORATE TAX LOOP HOLES AND ENACT A PROHIBITION ON HIDING FUNDS OFF SHORE. No more GE paying zero or negative taxes. Pass the Buffet Rule on fair taxation so the rich pay their fair share. (If we have a really had a good negotiating position and have the place surrounded, we could actually dial up taxes on millionaires, billionaires and corporations even higher...back to what they once were in the 50's and 60's.
___ CONGRESS COMPLETELY REVAMP THE SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION and staff it at all levels with proven professionals who get the job done protecting the integrity of the marketplace so citizens and investors are both protected. This agency needs a large staff and needs to be well-funded. It's currently has a joke of a budget and is run by Wall St. insiders who often leave for high ticket cushy jobs with the corporations they were just regulating. Hmmm.
___ CONGRESS PASS SPECIFIC AND EFFECTIVE LAWS LIMITING THE INFLUENCE OF LOBBYISTS AND ELIMINATING THE PRACTICE OF LOBBYISTS WRITING LEGISLATION THAT ENDS UP ON THE FLOOR OF CONGRESS.
___ CONGRESS PASSING LEGISLATION ELIMINATING THE ABILITY OF FORMER GOVERNMENT REGULATORS GOING TO WORK FOR CORPORATIONS THAT THEY ONCE REGULATED. So, you don't get to work at the FDA for five years playing softball with Pfizer and then go to work for Pfizer making $195,000 a year.
___ ELIMINATE "PERSONHOOD" STATUS FOR CORPORATIONS (Sorry Mitt Romney)
___ CONGRESS PASS LEGISLATION REGULATING AND SECURING VOTING PROCESSES INCLUDING ELECTRONIC VOTING MACHINES TO ENSURE FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS. Many are familiar with the huge statistical irregularities that have occurred in districts around the country where electronic voting machines have been used. We need safeguards in place to ensure the integrity of the process so voters are confident that count accurately reflects will of the people and is not vulnerable to tampering.
___ Congress pass specific and effective laws to enforce strict judicial standards of conduct in matters concerning conflicts of interest. So long as judges are culled from the ranks of corporate attorneys the 1% will retain control.
___ RE-ESTABLISH THE PUBLIC AIRWAVES IN THE U.S. SO THAT POLITICAL CANDIDATES ARE GIVEN EQUAL TIME FOR FREE AT REASONABLE INTERVALS IN DAILY PROGRAMMING DURING CAMPAIGN SEASON. The same should extend to other media. CONGRESS ENACT SPECIFIC LAWS THAT EFFECTIVELY BUILD A WALL BETWEEN THE DEFENSE INDUSTRY AND THE U.S. MILITARY. If we're going after corruption and also trying to reduce all the unnecessary wars that are costly in so many ways (most importantly costly in terms of human life on both sides), then this is the GRANDDADDY OF ALL REFORMS. Any of you who have seen the award winning widely popular documentary "Why We Fight" will realize the HUGE impact of this. Here's a snippet of Eisenhower's speech. It'll give you shivers. He was so brave: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUXtyIQjubU
___ End the military industrial complex (that WWII General and president Dwight D Eisenhower talked about) End our foreign policy of being global police, cut our bloated military spending to help balance our budget, withdraw US troops from most foreign nations. Investigate military contractors for theft of US taxpayer dollars.
___ Major lobbying reform. The phrase "we the people" is meaningless right now because we have far too many lobbyists with no sense of patriotism who occupy Washington DC like they're a foreign hostile occupying army. We need to either seriously reform our lobbying system, or abolish lobbying all together.
___ A rebuilding of America's infrastructure with a huge investment in high speed rail, electric cars, windmills, solar panels and any other energy efficient technology. Major R&D research into green tech and find those silver bullet breakthroughs that could create a tech boom much like the evolution of the computer/internet age that's still evolving. It's long overdue that America invests in itself and that our government takes a very active role in this. Hiring preferences need to be given to US citizens first and foremost.
___ Bring back Glass-Stegal. It's painfully Ironic that a bill who's purpose was to prevent another great depression was repealed and we have the worst economy since the depression. Bring it back word for word and if there's anything that honestly needs to be modified due to technology, etc. let those specific points be debated at a later time after we kick all the lobbyists out.
___ Abolish or severely modify all free trade agreements. And create anti outsourcing laws to assure that America always good paying middle class jobs. Free trade agreements were created by lobbyists, not because of public demand. They only serve a small few, not the common citizens of the US or any other nation that has them. We either need reforms that assure that these agreements meet the needs of the bottom 99% or just simply get rid of them. If we need new trade agreements we can always start from scratch. America needs leadership that acknowledges that outsourcing is destructive to the US economy since the vast majority of Americans know this all too well.
___ Full time 32 hour work week. The 40 hour work week is outdated due to the internet/automation etc. There's far too many out of work, and at least on paper, this solution would boost employment by 20%. Does anyone else have a solution that can make this claim? I know this isn't an original idea, but the fact is that far more people would be employed if we did this. I know this is over simplifying, but would we rather live in a country where 80% of Americans are employed at 40 hours a week or have 100% employed at 32 hours a week?
___ Paper ballots for all elections. A paper trail is vital to fair elections. Simply put: electronic voting machines can be rigged in so many different ways and can't be relied on for a free and fair election.
___ Overturn the citizen's united ruling that 80% of America is opposed to. Add a constitutional amendment that says corporations are not people and that corporations are forbidden to lobby or give money to political campaigns. Too many corporations have done far too much damage to this nation with their lobbying and owning of DC politicians. They must never be allowed to do this again.
___ Single payer health care, or a health care public option for the states that want it. Put it to a popular vote in every state. Why should Americans keep waiting for the federal government to fix this problem? Let the states levy taxes to finance such a system, and allow those states that still want private health insurance to stick with their system.
___ Real investigations for the many white collar criminals that crashed the US economy. After a conviction, declare such types as enemy combatants and be put in the same category as we do terrorists. Both are a huge threat to the American people. Let's be totally honest about this.
___ End the drug war at the federal level, let states decide to legalize marijuana and regulate hard drugs if they feel that state resources for law enforcement are best used elsewhere and they want to take the profit motive out of violent drug gangs. The only people that profit off the drug war are law enforcement, prisons, and drug gangs. We need to stop repeating the mistake of alcohol probation.
___ Raise taxes on the rich, and close all corporate loopholes to assist with balancing our budget and create a surplus, which is what we really need to pay down the national debt. For those rich that object to this, allow them to denounce their US citizenship and leave the United States, and never be allowed to return. America is much better off without such people, nor should we be dependent on their whims to have a strong economy.
___ The 8th US Parliament will overrule Congress in the case the
Congress attempts to overrule any Constitutional Rights.
___ The Gladiator will be the area of God given authority to
demonstrate Social Justice of execution by the "HOLY LADY" to murderous
criminals or those convicted criminals of Roseanne Barr's choosing. Innocent
women or men shall not be placed in the Gladiator Arena, but are only
permitted to observe as the public.
___ In the case that the USA has so many laws that it becomes
unconstitutional to have such laws, every single Law, Bill, and Act should
be overruled by the Constitution and stripped from the country's Justice
System leaving only the Constitution and Declaration of Independence as the
skeletal structure of this country to further re-create new Laws, Bills, and
Acts that are Constitutional.
